Halloween 2009

This was our first Halloween we got to hand out candy in our house. We had 19 trick or treaters and plenty of leftover candy. Sophie was not feeling to well that weekend. She had a little fever and had some teeth coming in on top so she did not help hand out candy. She got to wear her costume to daycare that Friday and then we put it on her for a little bit on Saturday.

So now Sophie wants to hold everything. Sam was drinking a beer one night and she kept grabbing for it and trying to put it in her mouth. Other favorites are the remotes for the the tv and cell phones. She sees us with them and thinks she needs them but then proceeds to put them in her mouth.

Twins Game

We took Sophie to her first Twins game at the dome. She fell asleep on the way there and slept for a little bit. She then had a bottle and watched the game. She did not like the loud cheering in the Dome and cried a couple times when it got really loud. It didn't happen very often since the Twins lost that game.

4 Month Check-up

Sophie had her 4 month check-up on July 23rd. She weighs 13 lbs 1 oz (50 percentile). Height is 24 1/2 inches (50 percentile). Head is 15 3/4 inches (25 percentile). She had two shots and cried some but did pretty good.

For the 4th of July we went to my parents place in Devils Lake, ND. We hung out on Friday and had a picnic with some of the family on Saturday. It was a beautiful weekend and we did a little fishing but the fishing was kind of slow but fun anyway. Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed having Sophie there.

We drove to Chicago on June 11th to go to a Twins/Cubs game on that Friday. We made it to the hotel at about 1:oo am. Sophie did good in the car, we only stopped once to feed her and once for gas. On Friday we took the subway to Wrigley Field. It was a nice day out, about 72 degrees and we thought it would be really warm out since it was sunny. Well it turned out that our seats were under the upperdeck so it was pretty cool and windy where we were sitting. We had left Sophie's blanket in the stroller so she got to use my sweatshirt instead. It was a good game and the Twins won. We were so exhausted that evening that we just found some dinner and went to bed early. Oh ya and Sam and I were also sick with colds so that didn't help matters.

On Saturday morning we got up and went to the top of the Sears Tower. It was rainy out so we couldn't see very far but it was still cool. Then we went and ate deep dish pizza....it was yummy and VERY cheesey. In the afternoon we went to the art museum and walked around the park. Then in the evening we went to Navy Pier and had dinner and walked around. We got up early Sunday morning and headed home.

2 Month Check-up

Sophie had her two month check-up on the 22nd of May. She is weighing in at 10 lbs 13 oz (50 percentile), length is 23 inches (75 percentile) and her head is 14 1/2. She had 3 shots and one oral immunization. She did not like the taste of the one by mouth. She cried but did swallow it. She also cried getting her shots but took a nap afterwards and felt good that night. She did have to take a plane ride after that but she did great. Sophie was also not happy with Mommy when I pulled her band-aids off the next day but she got over it.

San Diego

Our trip to San Diego was good. Sophie did great on the plane and slept most of the time. Sophie went on her first plane ride, first boat ride and first baseball game. She also went to the San Diego Zoo but slept thru it. She was a good baby but I think was happy to get home too.

So the other Saturday morning I get out of the shower and go to the bedroom to find Sam and Sophie in our bed. Sam has propped Sophie up on my pillow and covered her with our blankets. She looked just so darn cute and content but did keep slipping down so had to be pulled up again. I will say that Sam was awake and watching her so no she was not left alone under the covers.

Grill

So here is our new grill. This is the first time we have been able to actually have a grill since we no longer live in an apartment. Sam is very excited to have it and it has been used quite a bit already.

Carrier

I think we now have the carrier figured out and Sophie has been in it for at least an hour now without crying. We have one of the front carriers and other times I have put her in it she just cried but with two people trying to figure it out, I think we did. We also bought a sling one today but when I was trying it at home we realized that the package said that it was an L/XL but once out of the package it said S/M on the actual sling. Sophie wasn't really fitting in it and now we know why. I think I will exchange it for the larger size and see if she likes it or not. We are going on a trip soon to San Diego and I want to have options for holding her and bringing her places other than the stroller although we will be using that too. We'll see how it goes.

Mother's Day

So for Mother's Day, Daddy and Sophie brought Mommy breakfast which consisted of croissants from Lunds, coffee from Caribou, and an egg thing from Panera. Then Daddy cooked us lunch on the new grill. Daddy then did some yard work while us girls hung out. After that Daddy watched Sophie so I could do some scrapbooking and have time to myself. Daddy also cooked dinner that night. It was a good day but very busy for Sam.

Baptism

We had Sophie's Baptism at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church near Oslo, MN on April 26th. We had a busy weekend. Friday night we stayed with Auntie Brenda in Fargo. Had to have a bath in the morning because of an especially messy diaper. Went to Grand Forks on Saturday for a baby shower put on by Brenda, Mom and my aunts. Then in the evening went to Oslo for a benefit for my cousin Tyler. Sunday morning we had the Baptism and then we had to drive back to Minneapolis that afternoon. A very busy but fun weekend.

Birth Story

So Sophie was born on Sunday, March 22, 2009. I had been to the doctor on the Friday before and was 70% effaced with no dilation. So it seemed she may or may not come soon. I woke up Saturday morning and went to the bathroom. I had been shedding my mucus plug for quite a while (TMI...i know) and that morning there was more mucus with some blood in it along with a little cramping. It was then that I knew the baby would be coming in the next couple days.

Sam's mom was staying with us so that day we ran around and did some errands. We looked at furniture and we went to the casino. Sometime during the day I started to have some minor contractions. They would come and go all day and were bearable. After we got home we had dinner and I decided to lie down for a while since the contractions were getting a little worse. Before this I did not let anyone know what was happening but when I laid down I let Sam know. The contractions started to come more often and it seemed that the baby was going to come that night.

I laid in bed on my side from 6:00 to about 1:30 in the morning when we decided that it was time to go to the hospital. My contractions were somewhere between 3 and 5 minutes apart and they were very painful on my back. I couldn't even tell about the contractions in my belly since the most pain was in my back.

We made it to the hospital and got checked in. I was dilated to 6 so I didn't have to go back home, they kept me there. I then decided that the epidural was the thing to do since my back hurt so much. They pumped me with fluids quickly because the anesethiologist was near so they wanted to get me done quickly. The fluids made me shiver like crazy but by the time we did the epidural it had gotten better. The epidural was great...didn't feel a thing in my waste and my legs were only kind of tingly and not totally numb.

The contractions started to slow down after that so they gave me a drug to help those out again. Finally we were ready to push but the doctor wasn't there yet. The nurse started me pushing but since things were going so well we stopped so that the doctor would make it there on time. We waited longer and she finally showed up so we did some more pushing and at 7:22 am Sophie was born.

I should also mention that at 2:00 am after we knew we were staying at the hospital we called my sister Brenda to let her know what was happening. She was on call but found someone to cover for her and she drove to the cities from Fargo and made it just in time for the pushing to start. So Sam and Brenda were with me in the delivery room and Sam's mom was out in the waiting room. All and all everything went very smoothly.
